Microsoft responds to Linux boot bricked by Windows August 2024 update

[German]The August 2024 updates for Windows have caused collateral damage for Linux users. By switching the boot mechanism to Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT), the Linux boot loader refused to start on dual-boot systems following the update installation. Microsoft has now commented on the reasons and tried to explain the whole thing.

QNAP: Released QTS 5.2 with Security Center

[German]Vendor QNAP has released its QTS 5.2 operating system for NAS drives on August 21, 2024. One new feature is the Security Center, which actively monitors file activity and is designed to ward off threats from encrypting ransomware. The improved system security and support for TCG-Ruby Self-Encrypting Drives (SED) also increase data protection.

Windows 11: Recall to get a second chance, coming in October 2024 as a preview for Insiders

Windows[German]Microsoft is not yet abandoning its AI feature "Recall" in Windows. After a real PR disaster when this feature was announced in May 2024, the project was scrapped and Microsoft wanted to reconsider. In an update on August 21, 2024, Microsoft has now announced that Recall for Copilot+ PCs will be made available again as a preview for Windows Insiders from October 2024. However, details will not be available until October 2024, when the feature in question will be made available in the Windows Insider Program (WIP) – presumably for Windows 11.

Windows August 2024 update 'paralyzes' Linux boot

[German]Users who use Windows and Linux via Secure Boot on computers are likely to have a problem since August 13, 2024. Microsoft has changed something in the boot process with the August 2024 Patchday and switched boot entries from DBX to Secure Boot Advanced Targeting (SBAT). As a result, Linux installations on the affected systems no longer start in Secure Boot mode. Imho, this means switching off Secure Boot mode and waiting for updated Linux distributions.

Workaround for Outlook 365 crash (Aug. 2024) published by Microsoft

Citrix and Amazon AWS Workspace App: Issues with Intel XE graphics chips
