A little tip for analyzing Windows programs for malware or their components. There is a product called PEStudio by Marc Ochsenmeier that can be used to quickly analyze a Windows program and check its components for malware via VirusTotal.

DICOM protocol: Millions of patient data accessible unprotected via the Internet

It wasn't a problem until someone came up with the idea of moving the whole thing to the cloud. Security researchers have now discovered that many medical facilities are inadvertently making the private data and medical histories of millions of patients accessible via the internet.

Outlook fails when sending mail with non-delivery report (Error 0x80040305)

[German]Microsoft has confirmed a problem in Outlook which leads to the mail dispatch being canceled. This may be due to the fact that the user has created a large number of folders in the mailbox. In the event of an error, the error 0x80040305 is returned.

Windows: Microsoft declares speech recognition as deprecated

Windows[German]The list of discontinued Windows functions that will eventually be removed is getting longer and longer. After Cortana, WebDAV client, etc., Microsoft also no longer wants to retain the speech recognition introduced with Windows Vista. Microsoft declared these functions "deprecated" from Windows in December 2023 and will remove them. Microsoft Defender Application Guard for Office was also discontinued at the end of November 2023.

Risk of Active Directory misconfigurations; Forest Druid for analysis

Edge 120.0.2210.61 with security fixes and new telemetry option

Edge[German]Microsoft released Edge 120.0.2210.61 in the stable channel on December 7, 2023. This version closes three vulnerabilities (as well as Chromium vulnerabilities). The new Edge also comes with new guidelines. One relates to a new telemetry function that saves search histories via third-party search providers (active by default). Windows Platform Roadmap for 2024: Microsoft's plans for the coming year

Windows[German]After Microsoft recently announced a three-year ESU support extension for the end of 2025 and it is also clear that there will be both a Windows 11 24H2 and a successor (I have labeled this Windows 12) in 2024, additional information is now available. Zack Bowden gives some more concrete dates for release dates and content, which he claims to have received from Microsoft sources and from a "Windows Platform Roadmap 2024".

WordPress 6.4.2 released

The developers have just released WordPress 6.4.2. This version fixes a security issue and 7 bugs described in the release notes. It looks to me like this version is fixing the bug, that prevents the mobile device version used here on the blog  to render correctly (see).

Windows 10/11: Desktop icons jump on multiple monitors

Windows[German]Users of Windows 11 and also Windows 10 who work with multiple monitors suffer from a bug. There may be an unexpected shifting of desktop icons between monitors or other problems with the alignment of icons. This was confirmed by Microsoft a few days ago for Windows 11 version 23H2. Microsoft has now confirmed that this bug exists for Windows 10 22H2 as well as Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2.

Google Chrome 120.0.6099.62/.63 released

Chrome[English]Google has released updates of the Google Chrome browser in the Stable Channel for Mac, Linux and Windows to version 120.0.6099.62/.63 on December 5, 2023. Version 120.0.6099.62/.63 for Mac and Windows was released in the Extended Stable Channel. The Android and iOS apps of the Chrome browser have also been updated. The updates contain security fixes.
