Tavis Ormandy ported Lotus 1-2-3 and WordPerfect to Linux

Developer Tavis Ormandy, who works on Project Zero for Google, has ported the Unix versions of Lotus 1-2-3 and WordPerfect to Linux as a finger exercise. The Lotus port had already become known in May 2022. Then in July 2022, Ormandy was able to announce the port of WordPerfect to Linux – The Register wrote this article about it. He wrapped it all up in a .DEB package to allow easy installation on Ubuntu and Debian distributions. WordPerfect was quite popular in the 80s and early 90s – I used it mostly on Dec VAXes running VMS. However, with the raise of Word for Windows, this word processor has overtaken WordPerfect.

Chrome 104.0.5112.x fixes vulnerabilities

Chrome[German]Google has released the update of Google Chrome 104.0.5112.79 for Linux and macOS and 104.0.5112.79/80/81 for Windows on the desktop in the stable channel on August 2, 2022. The security update closes numerous vulnerabilities. The 104 version is also the basis for the Extended Stable.

VMware: Security Adversory, Windows 11 TPM Issue

The vendor has published a security advisory for various products (VMware Workspace ONE Access, etc.) as of August 2, 2022, because there are numerous vulnerabilities there. In addition, I still came across an issue with VMware Workstation in conjunction with Windows 11, where TPM prevents cloning of VMs.

ACCDE/MDE Bug (VBA Library Error ) in Access 2013/2016 fixed?

Microsoft has also fixed the VBA library bug in Access for these versions with updates KB5002248 for Office 2016 and KB5002250 for Office 2013. Outlook/Word hang on Uber invoices and other mails with tables

[German]With one of the latest updates, Microsoft has once again implemented a bug in Microsoft Office (from version 2206 build 15330.20196). Both Microsoft Outlook and Word hang on certain documents that contain tables. Explicitly listed are emails with invoices from Uber. A patch is supposed to come in August 2022, and there is a workaround.

Android app Outlook-Light released

Sophos InterceptX/Endpoint Protection Installer bug fixes (July 31, 2022)

Windows[German]Quick note for administrators running Sophos InterceptX or Endpoint Protection on their Windows clients and servers. There was an installation problem there because a certificate was found to be faulty – caused trouble when reinstalling. Sophos was aware of the problem for a few days and it was probably fixed by July 31, 2022. Here is some information about this issue.
