Chrome and Edge emergency updates – and trouble in Chrome/Edge 137

Update[German]Short addendum from the last few days. Both Google had to provide the Chrome browser and Microsoft had to provide the Chromium-based Edge browser with an urgent security update. This is due to security vulnerabilities that have probably been exploited by threat actors in the wild. I have also received two reader reports about problems when switching to the new Chrome/Edge 137. Here is a brief summary of these issues.

Microsoft launches "European Security Program"

To this end, Redmond has announced a European Security Program. This new initiative is designed to strengthen cyber security across Europe and is available to all European governments free of charge.

Android: Meta and Yandex escapted browser sandboxing and track users

Stop - Pixabay[German]I'm adding an information that I came across a few days ago. Anyone using apps or services from Meta (Facebook & Co.) or Yandex (Russian, less common in DACH) on Android was tracked. Security researchers have discovered that tracking pixels bypass the sandbox isolation in the browser and transmit users' personal data to apps and service servers. Meta has discontinued this tracking mechanism as of June 3, 2025 after it was discovered.

Microsoft publishes script to recreate inetpub

Windows[German]On April 2025 Patchday, there was confusion under Windows 10/11 about a folder "inetpub" that had been created. Some users deleted this folder, although Microsoft requires it. Microsoft has now released a "repair" script that restores this folder on the Windows system partition.

Operating system share (End of May 2025); Windows 11 don't climb

Windows[German]It's June 2025 and Statcounter's figures on operating system distribution on the desktop are available again for the end of May 2025. Since Windows 10 will no longer be supported in October 2025, Windows 11 is the only option for many users. But it looks like Windows 11 has not been able to make up any ground in the last two months.

Will Power Automate emails crashes Outlook 2019?

Microsoft subsidiary in Russia files for bankruptsy

Paragraph[German]I'm posting another newsflash here: The Microsoft subsidiary in Russia has filed for insolvency. The reason seems to be a lawsuit filed by a Russian bank against Microsoft Rus LLC, which ended with a penalty payment claim of approx. 1 million euros.
