Preliminary analysis of Gigaset malware attack through auto-installer in firmware

[German]Let me summarize in advance some findings that security analysts from Malwarebytes have documented regarding the malware attack on Gigaset Android smartphones. I've blogged about that within my German blog, but I'm publishing here a translated version for my English readers. The infection took place from a combination of an infected update server in conjunction with the Auto Installers com.redstone.ota.ui (also referred to as Android/PUP.Riskware.Autoins.Redstone) installed in the firmware of the Gigaset Android smartphones.

German City Dortmund goes Open Source

[German]The German city of Dortmund is moving in the direction of open source. On March 25, 2021, the city council decided to use open source software in the administration in the future. In addition, software developed by the administration or commissioned for development is to be made available to the general public. China: videos from private surveillance cameras on sale

[German]Hackers in China seem to have discovered a new business model. Tens of thousands of videos of hacked surveillance cameras are being sold online. Many of these videos are quite boring and show people just sitting in their houses or hotels. But the video clips sold online as "home video packages" may well contain more explosive material. A criminal network has probably been established that also secretly installs surveillance cameras in hotels to satisfy Chinese users' greed for "finding out what their neighbor is up to in their four walls."
