Windows[German]I'm picking up on a topic here in the blog that I've addressed a couple of days ago within my German blog. It likely causes problems for "enthusiastic" Windows 11 24H2 administrators who rely on the SNMP client (or other missing feature). The SNMP client is missing in this Windows 11 version and cannot be installed via Feature one Demand (FOD) because something is "broken", which interferes with administration via WSUS, for example. But now a kind of workaround is known.

Windows 11 24H2: Oct./Nov. 2024 patches prevent update installation

Windows[German]Microsoft continues to struggle with update issues for Windows 11 24H2. Security updates from October and November 2024 can cause an issue, that affected machines can no longer install subsequent updates if they were set up using USB media or CD/DVD drives with the corresponding installation images. However, Microsoft has now solved the problem.

Microsoft 365: Outlook for Mac loses access to Exchange On-Premises from October

HP Universal Print Driver Series (PCL 6) vulnerabilities

Windows[German]There are vulnerabilities in older HP Universal Print printer drivers (PCL 6 and PostScript) for Windows. The background to this is that these printer drivers use the libjpeg, libpng, OpenSSL and zlib libraries and may have (older) vulnerabilities. HP has issued a security advisory and driver update on January 29, 2025.

Microsoft Office 365: Ricoh Scan error "Cannot connect to SMTP server"

[German]It currently that users of multifunction printers with a scan function that use a connection to a Microsoft Office 365 SMTP server are running into issues with certain devices. Users of Ricoh devices are receiving "Cannot connect to SMTP server" connection errors and an "SSL negotiation failed" message when scanning to Microsoft Office 365 accounts. Various Ricoh models are affected, for example, but also Xerox Versalink C7030, Kyocera or Sharp devices. The cause is likely to be a change to TLS 1.2 by Microsoft.

Windows Server 2025 Domain Controller: Trust Relationship with Windows 11 is lost

Windows[German]Another "Beware of Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025" article for administrators who are considering the migration. There seems to be a problem with domain controllers on Windows Server 2025. Windows 11 clients seem to lose the trust relationship after 30 days and have problems renewing passwords.

Microsoft Defender: VPN service expires at the end of February 2025

This VPN service for individual users is to be phased out at the end of February 2025. The use of this function does not seem to have been very widespread, as I read between the lines of the Microsoft announcement.
