Windows[German]A blog reader has contacted me by e-mail, because he faced an issue. On a Windows Server 2022, the "SMTP Server" feature is uninstalled with every update installation. This has now happened for the second time around Patchday. After researching, the feature has already been quoted as deprecated in Windows Server 2012 and will be dropped in Windows Server 2025. Microsoft seems to remove the role via monthly security updates.

Hornetsecurity is down (June 7, 2024; since ~ 7:00 a.m.)

In the meantime, there is a second report from Matthias about a service disruption. But it looks as if the services of this provider of managed security services are currently unavailable. Even the support forum is no longer available on the web.

FBI recovers 7,000 LockBit keys; ransomware victims could contact the FBI

Copilot+AI: Recall, a security disaster – AI-assisted theft

Stop - Pixabay[German]On May 20, 2024, Microsoft presented the "Copilot+PC" concept and opened the next big barrel (hardware with AI support and Copilot). A feature called Recall is supposed to constantly take screenshots (or snapshots) of everything that happens on the system and have them analyzed by AI. Security researchers are up in arms against the "Recall" function, which Microsoft is selling as a "convenience feature". Everything should remain "private" and on the client. Let me pick up on the insights that security researcher Kevin Beaumont has gained with this "private AI function". Pandora's box has been opened and the logical consequence is: "Break up Microsoft and put the remnants under official supervision", because with Recall, Redmond has finally proven that they are an immanent threat to cyber security and simply cannot do it.

Windows 11: (P-Core) problems with Intel hybrid CPUs and network drivers

Windows[German]Windows 11 contains pitfalls for gamers, video editing users etc. that the majority of users are not even aware of. A blog reader sent me the relevant information at the end of May 2024 (thanks for that). According to the reader, he had made the mistake of switching from Windows 10 to Windows 11. After that, the problem was that the desktop was jerky and the Steam client used could only use very low data rates for caching. The reason for this is insufficient distribution of the computing load to CPU cores (P cores are not used in background processes) in the Windows 11 default settings.

Windows 10: Microsoft opens beta channel for insiders

Windows[German]Microsoft has surprisingly opened the Windows 10 beta channel for Windows Insiders. The reason given for this is that they want to actively work with Windows Insiders on the development of functions. The beta channel is open to Windows Insiders who are currently using Windows 10. Participation allows Microsoft to test new features for Windows 10, version 22H2, with Insiders before they are released to all Windows 10 customers.
