Windows 10: Microsoft buries the "dream" of a support extension

Windows[German]ISupport for Windows 10 will end in October 2025; it will not be possible for many existing systems to switch to Windows 11. Recently, there was hope that Microsoft would offer a support extension for Windows 10 (possibly for a fee). However, Microsoft has now dashed this "dream" in a new support article – the announced end of support for "Windows 10, the 'last' Windows", as Microsoft once announced.

Windows[German]Another small addendum from this week, which I'll pull out separately. Intel has released an update of its Intel Arc and Iris Xe graphics drivers to version 31.0.101.4972. This update is supposed to fix a number of problems (e.g. with Starfield (DX12). It is not documented that this graphics driver update under Windows 11 also fixes a problem in Microsoft Office which prevents Office documents from being loaded.

Fingerprint sensors and thus Windows Hello can be bypassed via vulnerabilities

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Microsoft is using Windows Hello in its operating system for password-free login. This is supposed to be more secure than a password, as it cannot be stolen. Security researchers were asked by Microsoft's Offensive Research and Security Engineering (MORSE) to check the security of the fingerprint sensors and thus of Windows Hello. During the evaluation, the researchers discovered several vulnerabilities and were able to trick the fingerprint sensors in Dell Inspiron 15, Lenovo ThinkPad T14 and Microsoft Surface Pro X laptops.

Windows[German]A quick question for administrators who have installed the November 2023 security updates on Windows Server 2022. I have come across reports – mainly from English-speaking administrators – where the installation of the update KB5032198 fails with the error 0x8007000d (or 0x800f081f). The error does not seem to be that widespread, but I have found several people affected.

Microsoft Teams 2: User status is sporadically displayed incorrectly

Teams[German]I'm posting a reader observation about the new Microsoft Teams 2.0 client here on the blog to find out whether the problem is more widespread or an isolated case. It's about the new Teams 2.0 client, which probably still has bugs and, for example, incorrectly distributes the presence status to contacts. A reader pointed this problem out to me the other day.

In the last few days, I have come across a few issues and questions that I would like to address in a collective article. These range from the fact that the Outlook add-in is missing during installation to crashes of the new client.
