[German]The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched a market investigation into cloud services in the UK. Following an investigation by Ofcom, the aim is to examine in more detail whether there are any competition concerns and, if so, what measures can improve the offering of these important services to UK customers.
[German]Microsoft updated the Edge browser in the stable channel to version 117.0.2045.55 on October 4, 2023. The release notes state, "Fixed various bugs and performance issues". The update fixed the Chromium Type Confusion vulnerability (CVE-2023-5346) in V8 with severity level High.
[German]Apple released the update to iOS 17.0.3 for compatible iPhone models on October 4, 2023. On the one hand, this update is supposed to close the vulnerability CVE-2023-42824 in libvpx. On the other hand, Apple promises to fix the heat problem in the iPhone 15 Pro, which is unsettling some users.

Google has released updates to the Google Chrome browser 117 in the stable channel for Mac, Linux and Windows on October 3, 2023. The announcement can be found on the Google blog. The stable channel has been updated to version 117.0.5938.149 for macOS and Linux. For Windows, the update updates the browser to version 117.0.5938.149/.150. According to the change log, a Type Confusion vulnerability (CVE-2023-5346) with severity level High in V8 only has been fixed. The Android Chrome app was also updated to version 117.0.5938.153 and closes the vulnerability. (via)
[German]German blog reader Uwe Kernchen has just pointed out to me an issues that users and administrators of Lancom firewalls (also offered by Rhode & Schwarz) have hade. Since October 1, 2023, the UF-xxx firewalls no longer receive signature updates. Presumably, this is due to Lancom's plan to change the key for the Avira antivirus engine, which may have gone wrong. The issue has been fixed on Oct. 4, 2023.
[German]Addendum from September 2023. Microsoft has released the two OOBE updates KB5030323 and KB5031274 as of September 26, 2023, in addition to various preview updates for Windows 10 and 11. The goal of these updates is to improve the out-of-the-box phase when upgrading to Windows 11 22H2 Moments 4.
[German]Another small addendum from the end of last week. There are several critical vulnerabilities in the Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) and open source mail server. CERT-Bund warns about these vulnerabilities, because attackers could execute arbitrary code via the SMTP service. In the meantime, the developers have provided security updates. Anyone using the Exim MTA as a mail server should urgently patch it immediately.
[German]Microsoft Outlook users have been plagued by an annoying bug since the end of June 2023. The program asked at every startup whether windows open in the previous session should be opened again (even if there were no such windows). The options to disable the prompt were missing in the settings. Now Microsoft claims to have fixed this bug.
