Windows 11 22H2: Upgrade block regarding printer settings bug removed

Windows[German]Microsoft had to set up an upgrade block to Windows 11 22H2 for certain systems with printers in September 2022. The problem was that printers on affected systems could only be operated in the default settings. As of October 21, 2022, Microsoft had already released a troubleshooter to fix printer issues. Now Microsoft has lifted the upgrade block for the function update to Windows 11 version 22H2 on the affected systems and classified the problem as solved.

Hive ransomware gang looted 100 million from 1,300 victims (including Media Markt)

I had heard something about a $240 million ransom demand at the time. Now the FBI has put the damage caused by the Hive gang to 1,300 victims since June 2021 at $100 million. The FBI also provides evidence of infections and how the group operates.

Out-of-band updates fixes Kerberos authentication issues on DCs (Nov. 17, 2022)

Windows[German]The security updates released by Microsoft on November 8, 2022, are causing issues with Kerberos authentication to Windows Domain Controllers (DCs). Microsoft had confirmed this in the meantime and released anout-of-band update for Windows Server 2012 R2 to 1909 on November 17, 2022 to fix the  issue. Windows 10: Desktop and taskbar issues or freezing confirmed and fixed

Windows[German]Users of Windows 10 version 20H2 to 22H2 may be experiences a bug that causes the system to freeze or the desktop or taskbar to disappear shortly. This is caused by an August 2022 update. Microsoft has now confirmed the isse and is reversing the buggy fix in question via Known Issues Rollback (KIR).

Oct. 2022 Firmware update bricks HP printer with Error 49 or 79

Stop - Pixabay[German]I have often reported about firmware updates for printers here in the blog. One point are security updates that close vulnerabilities in printers. The other point are firmware updates that reduce the functionality of a printer – for example to the use of consumables (ink, toner) of the printer manufacturer. Recently, I was contacted by a blog reader who reported a firmware update that rendered a whole series of printers unusable. It's a bit late already, but I'm posting the case here on the blog as a warning.

WordPress Version 6.1.1 released

The developers have released WordPress version 6.1.1 on November 15, 2022. It is a maintenance update that is supposed to fix 28 bugs in the core and 18 bugs in the block editor. Details can be found in the release notes.
