Microsoft Defender falsely reports Trojans on Dell computers (March 2, 2022)

Affected are probably systems from Dell, where the DellSupportAssistRemediationService is criticized. This is delivered with Dell computers via their SupportAssist. Chrome 98.0.4758.119 and Chrome 99.0.4844.51

[German]Google has released updates to Google Chrome 98.0.4758.119 for Windows and Mac in the stable channel on March 1, 2022. There is also a new development branch for Chrome 99.0.4844.51 for desktop systems (Windows, Mac and Linux). The update closes 28 vulnerabilities. The Android browser has been updated to version 99.0.4844.48. Thanks to the reader for the tip. Here is a brief overview.

Windows Server DC boot loop: Microsoft adds status information (Feb. 2022)

Windows[German]With the January 11, 2022 security updates, an issue occurred that caused Windows Server Domain Controllers to enter a cyclic restart loop. I had reported in the blog and Microsoft had already provided special updates in January to fix the problems. Now it seems Microsoft has also posted a corresponding entry on its status page for Windows Server 2022.

German wind turbines, the war in Ukraine and the broken satellite communication

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]It does not seem to be a coincidence:  On February 24, 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine began – and on that early morning satellite communication for thousands of wind turbines in Europe failed. The background is that communication with the KA-SAT satellite network is disrupted. The wind turbines are still producing electricity, but can no longer be controlled remotely via this satellite link for maintenance. There are indications of a cyber attack.

Analysis of the Cyber Attack on Axis Communications

The provider of (IP) security cameras was indeed since 20 February 2022 with many of its services no longer accessible via the Internet. As of Feb. 27, 2022, Axis Communications has published information about what has been (see axis.com confirmed cyber attack (Feb. 23, 2022)).

Windows error ID 2001: Unable to read the “First Counter” value under the usbperf\Performance Key

Windows[German]Occasionally, users of Windows Clients and Windows Server notice an accumulation of error entries in the Event Viewer that seem to indicate a specific problem. An error with the ID 2001 is permanently reported in the Event Viewer. The error text states that "First Counter" in "usbperf\Performance" cannot be read. This indicates that the service "usbhub" has a problem calling it. After the bug came to my attention some time ago, I am preparing the issue as a blog post.

Cyberattacks on Ukraine launched hours before Russian invasion, according to Microsoft

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Microsoft has disclosed some information about cyberattacks on facilities in Ukraine as of February 28, 2022. According to the U.S. vendor, the cyberattacks began hours before Russian troops entered Ukraine, as they were detected via their own telemetry. Microsoft notified the government of Ukraine of these attacks and within three hours updated Microsoft Defender signatures to detect malware in use.

More than 60,000 chats of the Conti ransomware gang leaked

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]The Russian invasion of Ukraine has had an unexpected effect on cyber security. First there were serious cyberattacks on facilities in Ukraine. Then the Conti ransomware gang claimed responsibility for the Russian government and threatened retaliation for cyberattacks on Russian facilities. Now, a hacker from Ukraine who has access to the chat server has made more than 60,000 chats public and plans to publish more material.
