0patch fixes again vulnerability CVE-2021-34484 in Windows 10/Server 2019

Windows[German]The ACROS Security team around founder Mitja Kolsek has just developed a micro-patch to close a User Profile Service Privilege Escalation vulnerability (CVE-2021-34484) of Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019. It is the third micro-patch, as Microsoft security updates do not close the vulnerability. The micro-patch is available free of charge for all customers with the 0patch agent until Microsoft closes this vulnerability. Here is some information about it.

Windows 11: Insider build 22000.588 shows watermarks on unsupported systems

Windows[German]Another small addendum from last week. Users who install Windows 11 with a trick on hardware that does not support the minimum requirements get a corresponding notice as a watermark on the desktop in Insider build 22000.588. Even those who hid this watermark in previous builds via a registry hack will now see it again.

Firefox installer assigns a unique identifier to the browser

Mozilla[German]Did you know that Firefox registers a unique installer ID in the browser? When someone downloads the Firefox installer from the Mozilla web pages and then installs the Firefox browser, a unique identifier is generated during this process and sent to Mozilla when the browser is first launched. This identifier, called dltoken, is confirmed in a Mozilla bug report. Addendum: Statement from Mozilla added.

Many Apple services from the cloud such as iCloud Calendar, iCloud Mail, iTunes Store, Apple Music, Radio are currently unavailable. However, it looks like Apple is already working on fixing the disruption as the number of disruption reports are decreasing.

Internet Explorer Desktop App retires on June 15, 2022

Microsoft  issued a brief post last week reminding users of the end of support for Internet Explorer. The Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop app will be retired on June 15, 2022 for certain versions of Windows 10 (version 20H2 and later). When users access the Internet Explorer 11 desktop app, they will be automatically redirected to Microsoft Edge. However, nothing changes for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and older Windows 10 builds, where IE 11 will continue to be supported.

Trend Micro and ASUS warns: Cyclops Blink Botnet targets ASUS Routers

The botnet is operated by the suspected Russian Sandworm APT.  Manufacturer ASUS has issued a warning this week, which is directed at users of its routers. Microsoft Security Compliance Toolkit 1.0 (contains also Windows Policy Analyzer)

Windows[German]Microsoft has released the Microsoft Security Compliance Toolkit 1.0 in Nov. 2021. This week I was asked if the Windows Policy Analyzer – a utility for analyzing and comparing Group Policy Objects (GPOs) – which has been available since 2016, is now being phased out. The download of the package is no longer available. It looks like the tool is now part of the Microsoft Security Compliance Toolkit 1.0, so here are a few notes.

Firefox blocks F-Secure Browser Protection Add-on

Mozilla[German]Brief information for users of the Firefox browser in Windows, who also have the F-Secure antivirus solution in use. Since March 18, 2022, the browser has blocked the F-Secure Browser Protection add-on in versions up to 4.0.52, allegedly for violating Mozilla's add-on guidelines.
