[German]Microsoft has stopped all business sales of its products and services in Russia with immediate effect due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This sales stop affects both hardware, such as Xbox and Surface devices. But it also includes online services such as Microsoft 365 and Xbox Game Pass.
[German]Is Microsoft eyeing the credit card data of its Windows 11 users in order to identify its users more precisely in the future and possibly charge them with additional fees? The information has been circulating on the Internet for hours: Microsoft has introduced a field for entering credit card data in the new Windows 11 Insider Preview build 22567. This is supposed to allow users to pay for apps and be notified about subscriptions or expiring credit card payments.
[German]A blog reader informed me that Corel Software is ending its Corel Upgrade Protection Plan (UPP) for its graphics software so that people will be automatically switched (as of March 8, 2022) to the 365 day subscription version of CorelDRAW. Interested parties will now need a subscription to always use the latest software. This is likely to be expensive. Those who don't want that, and have bought a UPP, need to act now.
[German]Microsoft has updated the Chromium Edge browser to version Edge 99.0.1150.30 as of March 3, 2022. This is a new development branch that also closes a number of vulnerabilities. Microsoft has sent around an update notice for this via email.

[German]With the January 11, 2022 security updates, an issue occurred that caused Windows Server Domain Controllers to enter a cyclic restart loop. I had reported in the blog and Microsoft had already provided special updates in January to fix the problems. Now it seems Microsoft has also posted a corresponding entry on its status page for Windows Server 2022.
[German]It does not seem to be a coincidence: On February 24, 2022, the Russian invasion of Ukraine began – and on that early morning satellite communication for thousands of wind turbines in Europe failed. The background is that communication with the KA-SAT satellite network is disrupted. The wind turbines are still producing electricity, but can no longer be controlled remotely via this satellite link for maintenance. There are indications of a cyber attack.
