There is a disturbing development that owners of the devices should keep an eye on. Right now, owners of My Book Live NAS units around the world are finding that data is suddenly being completely deleted. The cause is unknown, it seems that an unknown vulnerability within the outdates firmware from 2015 is exploited by someone to cause as much damage as possible.

Microsoft Edge 91.0.864.59

Edge[German]Following the Chrome update (to version 91.0.4472.123/.124 for Windows, see) hMicrosoft has also updated the Edge browser to version 91.0.864.59 as of June 24, 2021. The security update fixes vulnerabilities CVE-2021-34506 and CVE-2021-34475, which have already been fixed in Google Chrome. The release notes available on this page do not provide too much information.

Yes, Microsoft introduced Windows 11

Windows[German]Microsoft unveiled its "new Windows 11" today, June 24, 2021, as well as the ideas behind it. New design with rounded corner, Microsoft Teams integration, improved gaming, widget for desktop, Android app, a new store, optimized touch, pen and voice controls and some more, are the promised ingredients. Here's an initial overview of what to expect. Well, most of my predictions, given within a few blog posts, were true.

Attention: Cyberattacks on Zyxel firewalls with device takeover – details unknown

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Zyxel is currently notifying customers of thread actor attacks via an unknown vulnerability in its USG/ZyWALL, USG FLEX, ATP and VPN series firewall products with ZLD firmware installed in the field. Initial attacks surfacing a new user account in the products have been noticed since Monday. A blog reader alerted me to the issue – thanks for the info.

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Security experts from BlackBerry's Threat Research and Intelligence team, have discovered the ChaChi remote access Trojan (RAT). The Trojan, which specializes in Windows systems, was developed by the hackers of the PYSA ransomware and attacks targets worldwide. In recent months, it has targeted educational institutions. The hackers, who have been attacking targets worldwide with ChaChi since summer 2020, operate from IP addresses in Germany and Romania.

John McAfee found dead in his spanish cell

John McAfee, the founder of the eponymous security software maker, is dead. He was found dead in his jail cell in Barcelona, according to authorities, hours after a Spanish court approved his extradition to the U.S. There are indications that the 75-year-old died by suicide.

Firefox 89.0.2 released

Mozilla[German]Mozilla's developers have released version 89.0.2 of the Firefox browser as of June 17, 2021 (hours after version 89.0.1). According to the release notes, the update fixes occasional hangs of the WebRender under Linux. The new Firefox can be downloaded from this website (the variant is to be selected via the displayed list boxes).

Windows 10 Version 21H1 deployment more widely (6/22/2021)

Windows[German]Microsoft is again expanding the range of machines to which the Windows 10 May 2021 Update (21H1) will be offered after its release in mid-May 2021 (see Windows 10 May 2021 Update (21H1) released (May 18, 2021)). This is now the second expansion, having already been distributed more broadly in early June 2021 (see Windows 10 May 2021 Update (21H1) is distributed more widely via machine learning).
