What's the problem?

Since October 2, 2018, users have been able to update their machines to Windows 10 October 2018 Update (Version 1809). Only a few hours after the release Microsoft had to block the feature update for certain devices with Intel drivers. The the feature update has been pulled on October 6, 2018, due to major issues. After the re-release on November 13, 2018, Microsoft has begun, to document know issues on it's Windows 10 Upgrade-History page.

Morphisec Protector and Cisco AMP as upgrade blockers

In Windows 10 Upgrade-History Microsoft added on December 1, 2018 the following description for another upgrade blocker condition:

Status Platforms Details
Upgrade block in place Windows 10,
version 1809
Microsoft and Morphisec have identified an issue on devices that have installed Morphisec Protector or another application that uses the Morphisec Software Development Kit (SDK) including:  Cisco AMP for Endpoints. These applications may impact customers' ability to save Microsoft Office documents.

Morphisec Protector is a service that runs autonomously on Windows-based endpoints and servers, physical or virtual, and securely communicates with an on-premise or cloud-based management console for reporting purposes – as you can read here. Protector safeguards commonly attacked applications out of the box. But an installed Morphisec Protector may impact Office users and their ability to save Microsoft Office documents.

Some software vendors are incorporating Morphisec Protector using Morphisec's Software Development Kit (SDK). Cisco AMP for Endpoints is on of those software products, that depends on Morphisec Protector. Due to the issues caused by Morphisec Protector, Microsoft decided to block the feature update to Windows 10 version 1809 on all machines, where this software is found.

For customers who have already upgraded to Windows 10 V1809 and are experiencing issues with saving documents in Microsoft Office, Microsoft recommends uninstalling the Morphisec Protector software as a workaround. I would rather recommend going back to Windows 10 version 1803 and waiting for an update of the Morphisec software. Microsoft is currently working with Morphisec and Cisco to fix this issue and release an updated version of the software.
