Chrome browser installs apps/shortcuts on Windows & Linux clients automatically, without user consent

[German]I received yesterday a report from a German blog reader and administrator in an enterprise environment just emailed me about an unpleasant observation. The Google Chrome browser is automatically creating shortcuts or installing its own apps in their Windows environment. After I published the German edition of this blog post, I got more confirmation, but currently there isn't clear, what triggers this nor how to prevent this behavior. CloudNordic: Ransomware, and suddenly the Danish cloud was knocked out

[German]Customers of Danish cloud provider CloudNordic have successfully learned what it means to share responsibility. The provider had a ransomware infection when moving to a new data center, so the cloud offering was completely knocked out for the clientele. The provider had to inform customers that all servers and customer data had been wiped. In addition, CloudNordic informed that it does not want to and cannot pay the ransom demand of the cybercriminals. If you don't have a backup, it's now "time to call it quits" and everything has to be restarted manually.

Windows 11 22H2: Microsoft allows control optional update installation via group policy

Windows[German]Microsoft is experimenting with how administrators can control optional updates during installation. With the optional update KB5029351 published on August 22, 2023, a new option was introduced. Administrators can use group policies to specify how optional Windows updates can be installed in the future.

Google Chrome 116.0.5845.110/.111

Chrome[German]Google has released updates to the Google Chrome browser 116 in the stable channel for Mac, Linux and Windows on August 22, 2023. These are security updates that will be rolled out in the coming weeks and should eliminate 5 vulnerabilities (classified as "high"). Furthermore, there is an update to the Chrome app for Android as well as for iOS.

Edge 116.0.1938.54 released, problems with ignored policies when logging in to user account?

New 0-day vulnerability CVE-2023-38035 in Ivanti Sentry

Versions 9.18, 9.17 and 9.16 are affected. Older editions are also at risk, but are no longer supported.

Chrome warns about malicious applications in the future; extensions as top security risk

[German]Extensions for Google Chrome such as adblockers, price tracking extensions or spell checkers are convenient and quick to install. However, for security reasons, you should keep your hands off them, as the extensions can compromise online security. Google's developers have reacted and want to warn against harmful extensions were (if they are known).
