Windows Server 2022: Microsoft eases licensing rules a bit

Windows[German]Microsoft slightly relaxed the licensing rules for Windows Server 2022 in early April to correct some annoyances and better keep up with the competition. For example, the requirement that VMs with 20 cores require a total of 24 licenses was removed. The colleagues at The Register noticed this and they picked it up in the post Microsoft makes Windows Server 2022 licenses a little less cynical.

Microsoft Edge feature "Follow creators" sends nerly all visited website URLs to Bing API

Edge[German]There are reports, that the Microsoft Edge browser is  transmit the URLs of all websites visited by the user to the API of Microsoft's search engine Bing. The "Follow creators" feature, which is now being rolled out more broadly for users, is probably responsible. This feature can be turned off, however, but is once again an example that Microsoft doesn't have its stuff under control and administrators are riding a hot razor blade when they unleash something like this on users.

Firefox 112.0.2: Fix for Memory Leak

Mozilla[German]The Mozilla developers have probably corrected the bug in Firefox 112.0.1, which led to high memory consumption with version 112.0.2. As of April 25, 2023, the maintenance update to version 112.0.2 has been released, which is supposed to fix the bug.

Microsoft agrees not to bundle Teams with Office reported

[German]Microsoft is making a 180-degree turn and will no longer automatically bundle its Teams video conferencing and messaging app with its Microsoft 365 packages as an Office solution. That's reported be Financial Times. With this move, Redmond is trying to take a step towards the EU Competition Commission and hopes to prevent an official antitrust investigation by EU regulators.

Windows 10 21H2 and 22H2 ISO install media refresh April 2023 in VLSC and MSDN

Windows[German]Microsoft has updated the ISO installation images for various Windows 10 versions to include the April 2023 cumulative updates. The image files are available for download from Microsoft Visual Studio Subscription (MVS), formerly MSDN Subscription, and the Volume License Center (VLSC). The ISO files for Windows 11, on the other hand, do not yet appear to be offered in the April 2023 variant.
