Windows 11: Microsoft confirms Start menu issue and fixes it via KIR (July 2022)

Windows[German]In Windows 11, some users experienced problems with the Start menu, where the Start button stopped responding. The problem is related to the update KB5014668 from June 23, 2022, but can also occur through subsequent updates. In the meantime, Microsoft has confirmed the problem and is rolling back the corresponding fixes via Known Issues Rollback (KIR). However, administrators in affected enterprise environments will have to help out with group policies.

Windows 10 20H1-21H2: Microsoft confirms USB printer issues

Windows[German]Microsoft has confirmed that there can be problems with USB printers under Windows 10 version 20H1 to 21H2. Either there is trouble with the printer configuration or it is not possible to print to a device. I had reported such problems after the July 2022 patchday. However, the cause of these problems is already the preview update KB5014666 from June 28, 2022, but also subsequent updates contain the bug. In a support post, Microsoft not only reveals details, but also suggests workarounds to fix it.

Configuration Manager: Update to CB2203 and install a hotfix before July 27, 2022

Bye, bye Windows Information Protection (WIP) … (July 2022)

Windows[German]Short message for administrators who rely on WIP (Windows Information Protection) to protect corporate data. It's probably already known – but I'll mention it briefly anyway: Microsoft has "let WIP die", because Windows Information Protection will no longer be supported by Microsoft in Windows 10 and Windows 11 as of July 2022 and will be phased out. Successors are to be Microsoft Purview Information Protection and Data Loss Prevention for Multiple-Cloud.

TeamViewer: Fingerprinting via installed font

LAPSUS$ exposes security vulnerabilities at tech companies

Security researchers at Tenable have taken a closer look at the hacker group and published an analysis. The conclusion: the group's tactics were brazen, illogical and ill-conceived – and yet they were successful, managing to show up the biggest tech companies like Microsoft, Samsung, Ubisoft and Okta – indicative of the industry.
