Nation wide disruption with Verifon H5000 payment terminals in Germany

Stop - Pixabay[German]Since May 24, 2022, the terminals for card payments with giro and EC cards have been disrupted in numerous stores and gas stations nationwide in Germany. Customers of almost all banks were affected – although I also encountered institutions such as Sparkasse and Commerzbank in addition to Visa. In the meantime, it has emerged that a software error in the H5000 card terminals from Verifone was the cause, and communication with the payment service provider was blocked.

There are usually various categories and in past years people like Troy Hunt have been nominated and awarded. Zyxel warns of vulnerabilities in firewalls, AP controllers and access points (May 24, 2022)

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Vendor Zyxel has published a security advisory warning of several vulnerabilities in firewalls, access points and access point controllers. Attackers can execute their own code via the vulnerabilities, block 2FA login and disrupt the devices. However, updates are available for the affected components to close the vulnerabilities.

Chrome 102.0.5005.61/62/63 fixes critical vulnerabilities

[German]Google has released updates to the 102.0.5005.61/62/63 Google Chrome browser for Windows and Mac on the desktop in the Stable Channel as of May 24, 2022 (Chrome 102 is also included in the Stable Channel for Windows and Mac). Furthermore, on Android, the update to version 102.0.5005.58/59 has been released.

Strange WSUS update alert dated May 24, 2022.

Windows[German]Blog reader Markus K. contacted me yesterday morning by mail and described a strange observation. On his WSUS instances 45 new update notifications from WSUSE for Windows 10 20H2 to 21H2 have arrived on May 24, 2022, but they belong to updates from previous months. I'll post the observation here on the blog – maybe someone knows more.

WordPress 6.0 released

As of May 24, 2022, the developers have released WordPress 6.0. WordPress 6.0 (Arthuro) includes more than 500 improvements and 400 bug fixes according to the release notes. I just updated one blog – so far I couldn't find any problems or bugs. A Multisite blog (this blog belongs to), on the other hand, says that another update is in progress. I have then run the update in English (instead of German), which worked.

Cisco patches vulnerability in IOS XR software

The vulnerability, CVE-2022-20821 (CVSS score: 6.5), allows an unauthenticated, remote attacker to connect to a Redis instance and achieve code execution. The vulnerability is already being exploited.
