Microsoft Edge imports Chrome user data without consent

Edge[German]New "encroachment" of the Microsoft Edge browser or simply a bug? I'm taking up this topic, which I came across yesterday, in a post. What is it about? Tom Warren from The Verge noticed that the Edge browser opened automatically after a Windows update and displayed the tabs previously opened in Google Chrome. Warren hardly uses Edge at all. Other users have confirmed this "intrusive behavior" of the Edge browser.

Windows 11: WMIC will be removed in future

Windows[German]Short addendum from last week: Microsoft will retire the command line tool wmic.exe in the next version of Windows. The WMI command line utility (WMIC) provides a command line interface for Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). The execution of the tool is already disabled by default in Windows 11 Insider Preview versions since January 29, 2024. As a replacement for this command line tool, Microsoft suggests using corresponding PowerShell queries.

Windows 11: Preview update KB5034204 causes install issues and shell / Explorer crashes etc.

Windows[German]Windows 11 Preview Update KB5034204 released on January 23, 2023 is causing serious problems. Some users are "only" experiencing installation errors (which is less of a problem with an optional update). Those who were able to install the update may suffer from crashes of Explorer or the taskbar or other shell components.

How Midnight Blizzard hackers were able to penetrate Microsoft's email system

Teams[German]On January 26, 2024, there was probably a major disruption in Microsoft Teams that led to disconnections or delayed delivery of messages. Microsoft has posted the relevant status information in the Admin Center under TM710344. The problem seems to have been resolved in the meantime.

Windows Server 2025 introduced

This will be called Windows Server 2025 and a first preview with this name was published for testers at the same time. FRITZ!Box: Entering the URL fritz.box suddenly redirects to an external page

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Problem for users of an AVM FRITZ!Box family broadband routers who try to access the router's administration interface from the home network. However, when entering the URL fritz.box, users do not end up on the routers firmware FRITZ!Box login page, but are redirected to an external website. Two users have pointed out the problem to me, with one user suspecting a hack. The cause is a combination of two circumstances that provoke this behavior. Someone has registered a domain fritz.box and DNS servers from Google then resolve to this page. The remedy is to enter the IP address of the FRITZ!Box or to use a different DNS server. Google Pixel with file access issues after January 2024 GPSU; rollout halted

[German]Google Pixel smartphone users are complaining of issues after installing a Google Play Security Update (GPSU) for Android from January 2024. There are problems accessing files, which is apparently so serious that Google has suspended this Google Play Security Update.
