[German]There was a vulnerability in Microsoft's Windows DCOM implementation that allows security features to be bypassed. Microsoft has documented and patched this, and plans to release a final one in March 2023, however. Security vendor OTORIO has released an open source DCOM hardening toolkit for OT systems in advance, which companies can use to analyze their DCOM environments and harden them if necessary.

[German]A few weeks ago, it was announced that Microsoft had discontinued support for the Edge browser as of January 2023 for Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1 and actually Windows Server 2012 / R2 (Edge version 109 is the last supported version). Now Microsoft has announced that support for the Edge browser on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 will continue until October 10, 2023 (thanks to blog readers for the tip).

[German]Small addendum from this week: Microsoft has released the dynamic update KB5022370 for Windows 11 21H2 on January 19, 2023. The goal of this update is to improve setup errors and the installation process. Dynamic update KB5022370 replaces version KB5020379, which was released on November 15, 2022. [German]Small addendum from this week about a bug on a mainboard from MSI. A bug in the BIOS/UEFI of various board models prevents Secure Boot from being used – even if the BIOS setting is set to On. The Polish student Dawid Potocki recently came across this bug. Users have to change the default BIOS/UEFI setting in order for Secure Boot to work correctly and actually meet Microsoft's requirements for Windows 11.
