Is Microsoft retiring Windows MSDT in 2025?

Windows deleted shortcuts; Microsoft explains Windows Defender ASR issue Jan. 13, 2023

Windows[German]Yesterday, Friday, January 13, 2023, Microsoft pretty much knocked out parts of its Windows user base by rolling out a buggy Defender signature via update. With ASR enabled, shortcuts were detected as malicious in Windows and deleted from the desktop, Start menu or Windows taskbar. Now Microsoft has confirmed the problem and revealed some details.

Edge[German]Microsoft released on January 12, 2023, the Edge browser version 109.0.1518.49  in the stable channel. It is a new development branch that follows the Chromium team's release. This is the last version that will still run with Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1, as well as their server counterparts. From version 110 onwards, trouble threatens in other places.

Microsoft Defender update/ASR deletes desktop shortcuts, taskbar broken, Office apps don't start anymore

Users report in the blog that under Office 365, build 16.0.15831.20252, the taskbar in Windows is broken and the Office applications no longer start. In many clients, the shortcuts disappear and can no longer be found in the Start menu. There are indications that Microsoft ASR (Attac Surface Restriction) could be responsible for this. One user states that a Defender signature update deletes the shortcuts in Windows.
