[German]Just an addendum and a reminder to January 2023 Patchday for Windows. There is a vulnerability (CVE-2022-41099) in the WinRE environment of Windows 10 that allows Bitlocker encryption bypass. To fix it, the clients' Win RE environment must be manually updated. The issue, which has been known since November 2022, was addressed again by Microsoft in January 2023.

I still keep hearing "runs without any problem", but just in case, if Windows 11 22H2 should ever have hiccup and shows the error "This app can not be opened", there I would have something to the cause. [German]Mozilla's developers have released the versions 109.0 and 102.7.0 ESR of the Firefox browser on January 17, 2023. The ESR versions are maintenance updates that are intended to fix bugs. For other users, the printing process crashes. After investigations, it became obvious, that the Edge 109 on Windows has printing issues, when the printer name contains special characters such as German umlauts. [German]Security researchers have discovered a severe security vulnerability CVE-2023-22598 in the InRouter firmware from manufacturer InHand Networks GmbH. The vulnerability, with a CVE value of 10, leaves thousands of wireless IIoT devices vulnerable to remote code execution via the cloud. Vulnerabilities in the absence of a patch range from industrial robots to smart electricity meters to medical devices.
[German]Microsoft has updated the Edge browser in the stable channel several times since Jan 12, 2023 (on Jan 12 to version 109.0.1518.49, on Jan 13 to 109.0.1518.52). In addition, Edge 109.0.1518.55 seems to have been waiting in the wings since 1/16/2023 (I haven't found any release notes yet). I now have a report that the Edge suddenly enables the transfer of passwords to the cloud when a Microsoft account is set up. And the Edge 109.0.1518.55 puts a shortcut icon on the desktop, which only administrators can delete.
[German]Friday January 13, 2023 Windows users worldwide were affected by a buggy Defender signature update that deleted desktop shortcuts and more via an ASR rule. In a follow-up, I shed some light on why even home Windows 10/11 users could have been affected. And there's still an approach to restoring the deleted shortcuts from volume shadow copies.
[German]Microsoft believe they have fixed the ODBC connection issue on SQL databases with the January 10, 2023 security updates for Windows. But I received a report that there are still issues with Access. In addition, I have received a report that the January 2023 updates for the C2R versions of Microsoft Office 2016 and 2019 also cause issues with Access and SQL database access.
