Windows 10 22H2 in broad rollout (Nov. 2022)

Windows[German]Microsoft already announced last Friday, November 18, 2022, that they are now looking to broadly distribute their Windows 10 October 2022 Update (commonly referred to as Windows 10 22H2). This marks the beginning of the wide rollout, and the feature upgrade to this OS version is likely seen as ready for use in corporate environments.

Windows 11 22H2: Connection issues with remote desktop confirmed

Windows[German]Issues with remote desktop connections have been bugging Windows users for months. I had already reported about the problem in October 2022 in the blog post Windows 11 22H2: Microsoft investigates RDP issues. Microsoft has confirmed as of November 22, 2022 that connection problems with Remote Desktop Connections may occur in Windows 11 version 22H2. At the same time, it suggests measures to fix such problems.

VLC 3.0.18 released

SicherheitThe developers of the VLC Player have released version 3.0.18. The changelog lists minor fixes under macOS and other bugs fixed. The update is not yet offered in the VLC player. However, the download is already available on FTP server. (via)

Free Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace banned from France's schools

The reason given for this is data protection concerns, as the offerings in question are not in line with France's IT strategy and violate EU law.

Extended Security Updates (ESU) for SQL Server 2008 – 2012

Update[German]Support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 has already expired on July 10, 2019. For Microsoft SQL Server 2012, on the other hand, support ended on July 12, 2022, which means that Microsoft has also shut down the SQL Registry Portal. However, it seems that there are still a lot of installations of these SQL Server versions. In an article dated November 19, 2022, Microsoft notes that there are Extended Security Updates for SQL Server via Microsoft Azure services.

Mass rollout of WebView2 in Windows 10

VirtualBox 7.0.4

Virtualbox[German]In October 2022, Oracle's developers had released VirtualBox version 7.0.0 (VirtualBox 7.0.0 with Secure Boot and virtual TPM support). Now, an update to version 7.0.4 has already been added to 7.0.2. This version is also a maintenance update for bug fixes.
