Update[German]As of July 12, 2022 (second Tuesday of the month, patchday at Microsoft), a number of security updates for Office and Windows have been released. The security updates also eliminate 84 vulnerabilities, one of which is 0-day. Unfortunately, there is some collateral damage to report as a result of these updates. I pull together some information in this post, what came under my eyes, or what may be open problems from previous patchdays and may have been fixed.

WordPress: Vulnerability in Kaswara Modern WPBakery Page Builder under attack

ordPress users who have Kaswara Modern WPBakery Page Builder in use should act quickly. Older versions contain vulnerability CVE-2021-24284 , which allows WordPress installation takeover. The vulnerability is under attack. Details can be found at Bleeping Computer in this article.

Windows as a service: Future feature updates only every 3 years?

Windows[German]The semi-annual feature updates cycle (I call them feature upgrades) introduced by Microsoft in 2015 for Windows 10 is proving to be a (foreseeable) "mess". It caused a lot of problems, the criticism from companies does not stop, and last year they have switched to annual feature updates. Now there is a rumor that Microsoft will only release a new main Windows version as an upgrade every three years.

Internet Explorer 11: Update KB5015805 (July 12, 2022)

UEFI firmware bug compromises over 70 Lenovo notebooks (July 2022)

[German]Note for blog readers who use Lenovo (and IBM) notebooks. Security researchers from ESET have found serious vulnerabilities in the UEFI firmware of Lenovo notebooks that allow the operating system to be hijacked in the early boot phase. Lenovo has issued a security advisory listing over 70 notebook models (including ThinkBook) as affected.

Windows 8.1 now shows warnings "end of support in January 2023"

Windows[German]Users running Windows 8.1 will now receive a warning about the end of support. Because in six months, Windows 8.1 will also reach the end of support and will then no longer receive security updates. This has been triggered with the July 2022 security update. Microsoft tries to prevent people from being caught off guard by Windows 8.1's end-of-life (EOL).

Office updates destroys Access run time and apps

[German]I got reports, that Microsoft Office 365 version 2206 (Build 15330.20246) is causing issues with VBA in Access applications. And I got reports, that KB5002121 for Office 2013 and KB5002112 for Office 2016 is causing the same issue.

Outlook/Apps failing sending mails? Microsoft has disabled SMTP (July 2022)
