Windows 10 22H2: Insider Preview Update KB5015684 and release date hints

Windows[German]Microsoft will also release a feature update for Windows 10 to version 22H2 in the second half of 2022. Now, the update KB5015684 is available as a preview for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel to unlock the new version on Windows 10 21H2. Microsoft is thus releasing the preview for enterprises to test. And there are speculations that Windows 10 22H2 could be released in late September 2022.

Microsoft 365 services has been down (July 28, 2022)

[German]Not only Cisco Webex is down, I have also received reports of disruptions from AWS for North America (see Cisco Webex has been down (July 28, 2022)). Microsoft's cloud services (Microsoft 365) also seem to have been affected. At least, I have corresponding disruption reports for North America, which have since been confirmed by Microsoft.

Google Chrome: Third-party cookie blocking postphoned to Q3 2024

[German]Google has just pushed back its plan to block third-party cookies in its Chrome browser to Q3 2024. Actually, this step was supposed to be completed in 2022, but was then postponed to 2023 and will now only be implemented in 2024 at the earliest – if at all. Cisco Webex has been down (July 28, 2022)

Stop - Pixabay[German]German blog reader Gerald just emailed me to let me know (thanks for that) that the Cisco Webex video conferencing service was down. I had a quick look, the disruption started at about 19:00 German time and lasted at about 22:00. The Webex Room Systems service is currently (22:41) still listed with a "Major Impact" and Cisco is also still listing a disruption with the Webex Clod Registered Device. So the disruption seems to be slowly subsiding.

Citrix ADC/Gateway Security Bulletin CVE-2022-27509

Vulnerabilities in MiCODUS GPS tracker MV720 allow to monitor and stop vehicles

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Security reasearchers have discovered six serious serioud vulnerabilities in the MV720 GPS trackers from MiCODUS, which are frequently used in vehicles. Security researchers have managed to hack the trackers so that the vehicles' location data could be monitored by third parties. And the attackers would even be able to stop the vehicles remotely. The manufacturer was notified, but would not fix the problem. The US CISA warns against the devices – users are advised to remove them because of the security risks.

ASUS/Gigabyte Mainboards: CosmicStrand Rootkit found in UEFI Firmware

The Chinese malware, CosmicStrand, is said to have been undetected in the UEFI of the affected motherboards since at least 2016.

Firefox 103.0, and 102.1esr and 91.12esr released

Mozilla[German]Mozilla's developers have released on July 26, 2022 the versions 91,2 and 102.0 as ESR version and the new 103.0 version of the Firefox browser. Firefox 103 is a new development branch, and the ESR versions are maintenance updates.
