Last month security firm Kryptowire discovered some "telemetry" functions within Android ROMs, provided by chinese firm Adups, shipped on cheap china phones ($50), shipped by Miami based vendor Blu. The phone was sending data to a server in China. Blu stated, that it did not want Adups to do any data collection on its phones. The ROM for the R1 HD smartphone has been updated by Blu – but Amazon has halted shipment of the R1 HD smartphone. Blu now will no longer use Adups to push OTA updates.
