Windows temp folder flooded with Aria-debug-xxx.log files

Windows[German]I'm picking up an issue that a blog reader reported to me back in March 2023. While checking his temp folder under Windows, he noticed that there are several GByte-sized log files with the name Aria-debug-xxx. His guess is that Office or Microsoft Word in conjunction with OneDrive has something to do with it. I then did some more research and found that the problem with these log files is probably more common and has existed on Windows since at least 2017.

Firefox switches to Extended Support for Windows 7, 8, 8.1

Mozilla[German]Mozilla's developers have just announced that the Firefox browser will move to the so-called Extended Support channel starting with version 115 for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. Firefox 115 will be the last browser version that will still run on the aforementioned operating systems. Support ends in September 2024.

Microsoft provided workaround for failed Surface Pro X cameras

Since May 23, 2023 the cameras on Microsoft's Surface Pro X don't work anymore. Microsoft has now confirmed the issue and provided workarounds for managed and unmanaged devices. Windows 10 21H2 reaches end of live – forced upgrade to 22H2

Windows[German]Short reminder for Windows 10 users who are still running version 21H2. In June 2023, this Windows will receive security updates for the last time in certain variants and will then be removed from support. Microsoft has therefore started to compulsorily update corresponding machines to version 22H2.

Cloud operating system Windows 365 available as preview

Windows[German]At the BUILD 2023 developer conference, Microsoft also announced the availability of its Windows 365 cloud operating system as a public preview. It is the long-awaited cloud operating system that can be booted from a Windows 11 workstation but runs in the cloud. The target audience for Windows 365 is businesses and organizations that need Windows from alternate locations. The whole thing is arguably based on Azure Virtual Desktop, but uses a simplified technique for virtualization.

Microsoft explains Unified Update Platform (UUP) with Intune

Windows[German]At the end of March 2023, Microsoft has enabled the Unified Update Platform (UUP) for Windows 11 22H2. The platform is supposed to enable smaller and easier updates, as Microsoft explained. In this context, problems and shortcomings observed by users have been described to me. Microsoft employee Stefan Röll published a post in the tech community a few days ago that goes into detail about the Unified Update Platform (UUP) in connection with Intune.

Windows 11 gets AI with "Windows Copilot

Windows[German]At the Microsoft BUILD 2023 developer conference, there was also an announcement that "artificial intelligence" is to enter Windows. Specifically, Microsoft wants to integrate its AI technology "Windows Copilot" into the Windows 11 client operating system. Microsoft boss Satya Nadella promises that every Windows user will mutate into a "power user" – whatever that means. What does this announcement on Microsoft's part mean?

Tesla files: data leak shows Tesla's problems with its Autopilot

Stop - Pixabay[German]The German magazine Handelsblatt received 100 gigabytes of internal "Tesla files" by whistleblowers. The leak includes emails, personal data of the Tesla staff and customer complaints including descriptions of accidents. This data from around 23,000 files could be analyzed by Handelsblatt and shows the security problem of the Tesla Auto Pilot. Authorities are now alarmed and are examining the details.
