Exchange Server 2019: 2023 H1 Cumulative Update released (May 3, 2023)

Exchange Logo[German]Microsoft has released the 2023 H1 Cumulative Update for Exchange Server 2019, effective May 3. Also sailing under the acronym CU13, the update brings Modern Auth to Exchange 2019 and Outlook on Windows and is said to fix nearly 200 bugs. Microsoft says the setup preserves the administrator's custom configuration settings.

Microsoft offers Email notification about known Windows bugs for IT administrators

Windows[German]Microsoft provides information about known bugs and issues in Windows 10, 11 and Windows Server 2022 in the Known Issues category of its Windows Release Health status page. However, administrators from companies often do not have the time to check the pages to see if there are any new reports. Now Microsoft is offering the option for administrators from corporate environments to sign up for an email notification via their Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Windows Update Service components update KB4023057 May 2023

Windows[German]Have you been offered the update KB4023057 (Update Service component) under Windows 10/11 in the last days? Last week, I came across a few messages on the web – and German blog reader Volker just reported that on May 3, 2023, update KB4023057 was automatically installed under Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2, build 19045.2913, despite the default setting "Ask before each installation". I had last reported about the tool on April 21, 2023 in the post Windows Update Service components update KB4023057 April 2023 Refresht.

SpecTor: Europol, FBI & Co. arrest 288 operators and customers of darknet drug marketplace

The operation covered 9 countries. Law enforcement authorities also seized the illegal dark web marketplace "Monopoly Market".

Google Chrome 113.0.5672.63/.64 and more

Chrome[German]Google has released updates to Google Chrome Browser 113 in the stable channel for Mac and Windows on May 2, 2023. These are security updates that fix critical vulnerabilities. The Extended Channel and the app for Android have also been updated. And Google announced to exchange the lock icon for https URLs in the address bar with a more neutral icon.

Microsoft Office Updates (May 2, 2023)

[German]As of May 2, 2023 (first Tuesday of the month), Microsoft has released non-security updates for still-supported versions of Microsoft Office. This is the first time such updates have been offered since January 2023 (there were no Office updates in February, March and April). There were no updates for Office 2016, Office 2013 went out of support in April 2023, but will probably receive patches for the last time. Here is a brief overview of the updates.

Outlook and Teams to open links soon in Edge by default

Edge[German]Microsoft's bullying of users is going into the next round. Redmond wants to open web links in the Outlook for Windows app and in Microsoft Teams in the Edge browser by default. And this is to be independent of the user defaults that are set in the Windows settings for the default browser. What was already the case with Microsoft 365 Personal or a Family subscription is now said to be coming to Microsoft 365 enterprise customers.

Windows hardening: Guidances and key dates 2023

Windows[English]Small reminder for administrators in the Windows environment. In 2023, Microsoft will continue to implement various hardening measures for Windows systems (DCOM authentication, Kerberos, Netjoin/Domain Join, etc.). These hardening measures will be rolled out in stages through monthly updates. Even though there was another postponement of a hardening measure recently, there are a few dates coming up in the next few months for Windows administrators to keep in mind.

Invalid URLs in wsusscn2.cab (KB5023706, KB5025239) after UUP conversion
