Windows[German]Brief note to administrators who are deploying installations of Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022. A blog reader pointed out a bug to me that he noticed during setup. During installation, you can set a password for the administrator, but some password patters are is not saved.

Issues with OneDrive for Business Sync Client caused by update KB5018410 (Oct. 22, 2022)

[German]Microsoft  is currently reporting various issues with the OneDrive for Business Sync Client. These range from problems when logging off, to the synchronization of a Teams website that does not end, to the problem that the OneDrive for Business Sync Client cannot be uninstalled. The whole thing is probably related to the (problematic) Windows security update KB5018410. Microsoft is currently working on a fix.

VirtualBox 7.0.2 released

Virtualbox[German]Oracle's developers had just released VirtualBox version 7.0.0 (VirtualBox 7.0.0 with Secure Boot and virtual TPM support), and now they have already pushed an update to version 7.0.2. This version is a maintenance update for bug fixes.

Windows[German]As of October 17, 2022, Microsoft has released several unscheduled updates for Windows. These updates fix a connection problem that can occur with SSL and TLS connections. Affected by this problem are probably all Windows client and server. Below I have listed all available updates and also give some hints where problems occur without these updates.

Confirmed: Metro Group victim of cyber attack

I had already suspected a cyber attack on the Metro Group in a post and I had reports from Austria, from France as well as comments from German Metro customers as well as employees. However, a cyber attack remained unconfirmed so far. Now Metro AG has confirmed such an attack to heise – and on its website.

Cyber attack on Metro AG or just a IT break down? Austria, France, German (and more countries?) affected

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Gastronomy wholesaler Metro group is facing currently serious computer issues in it's stores – I guess world wide. First the question raised: Was there a cyber attack on the Metro Group in Austria? At least that's what the information I have suggests. But Metro says it's not known and talk about a "technical IT issue" with unknown root cause. In any case, for the past few hours, employees in Metro stores have been struggling with severe IT problems and have been unable to issue invoices, etc. Here is some information, what I know so far.

A security company found a misconfigured server with the data on the Internet and informed Microsoft in September. The just released Windows 10 22H2 is now also available for download as an ISO installation file on MSDN for subscribers (in the Visual Studio portal). In addition, Windows 10 22H2 is now also offered in Intune for installation on compatible machines.
