Windows 10 2004-22H2: Out-of-the Box Experience Update KB5020683 (Dec. 2022)

Windows[German]According todeskmodder.de, Microsoft has again released update KB5020683 for Windows 10 from version 2004 up to the current versions 21H1-22H2 in December 2022. This so-called out-of-the-box experience update for Windows 10 is intended to allow eligible machines to move to Windows 11 during a new Windows 10 installation. It is installed during the during the Windows OOBE process when an Internet connection is available. I had provided some notes on the update, which, however, applies exclusively to systems running Windows 10 Home and Professional, in the blog post Windows 10 21H1-22H2: Out-of-the Box Experience update KB5020683 (Nov. 11, 2022).

Chrome 108.0.5359.94/.95 security fixes

Chrome[German]Google has released security updates to Google Chrome in the 108 branch in the stable channel for Mac, Linux, and Windows, as well as Android, as of December 2, 2022. The updates close a vulnerability that has already been exploited.

Microsoft Store Apps: EXE and MSI now also allowed in Windows Store for Business

Windows[German]Previously, apps that had to be made available in the Windows Store for Business for Windows had to be made available there as UWP apps or in MSIX format as packages. Otherwise, the apps were rejected. This restriction seems to have fallen now, as I could see from a message on November 30, 2022 in Microsoft's Techcommunity. Microsoft has probably upgraded WinGet and Intune accordingly.

Windows 11 22H2: Microsoft fix for file copy performance issues is coming

Windows[German]Copying large files under Windows 11 22H2 can lead to a serious speed drop. The issue was described by users and individual Microsoft employees and confirmed by Redmond. Microsoft has already included a fix in a new Insider Preview from November 28, 2022, and wants to roll it out soon (as soon as it is verified by insiders), probably on December patchday.

LastPass customer data accessed after cloud storage service hack (Nov. 2022)

This cloud storage service is currently used by both LastPass and its subsidiary GoTo. However, those who use the LastPass service to store passwords should not worry, according to the provider. Customers' passwords remain securely encrypted due to LastPass' Zero Knowledge architecture.

Edge 106.0.1370.86 in Extended Stable Channel

EdgeMicrosoft has also updated the Edge browser in the extended stable channel to version 106.0.1370.86 as of November 28, 2022. It is a security update that, according to the release notes, closes CVE-2022-4135 reported by the Chromium team. This is already being exploited in the wild. Thanks to EP for mention.
