Security: TikTok leak, ransomware infections, seizures and more

There is a TikTok leak of source code and user data,  and US authorities have seized the WT1SHOP website, which sells stolen user data (ID numbers, credit card data, etc.). Chocolate manufacturer Läderach (Switzerland), InterContinental Hotels Group, and the district capital Feldbach (Austria) have been affected by ransomware. Thunderbird 102.2.2 released

[German]The developers of Thunderbird have released another update of the email client to version 102.2.2 as of z. September 2022 (thanks to the reader for pointing this out). It is a bug fix update, which should fix a number of problems. Because somehow, the 102 development thread of Thunderbird is a disaster (see Thunderbird 102er: The problem bear). Windows Server 2022: MS 365 apps to be supported

Windows[German]U-turn at Microsoft regarding the support of Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, etc.) on Windows Server 2022. As recently as December 2021, Microsoft had emphasized that there was no support for the MS 265 apps in question on the operating system. Those affected should switch to Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365. Now it became known that Microsoft wants to support the Microsoft 365 apps under Windows Server 2022 in the future. It should already work for Insiders.

Windows 10/ 11: Possible daylight saving time changeover issues [in Chile and worldwide]

Windows[German]Windows users in Chile could have problems with the daylight saving time changeover in September 2022. At least for Windows 10/11, Microsoft already warns the user community that "strange" behavior could occur. This becomes a problem in international networks, where computers are connected to systems in Chile, or when meetings from and with Chile are scheduled from abroad. The background is that Chile has shifted the date for the daylight saving time change from September 4 to September 10, 2022.

PowerToys 0.62 released

Windows[German]Microsoft has released version 0.62 of its free PowerToys for Windows 10 and Windows 11 on September 6, 2022. I haven't reported about these tools and the weekly water levels here in the blog for a while, especially since the software often came along with bugs and then caused problems. With version 0.62 three new tools (Screen Ruler, Quick Accent and Text Extractor) were released.

Lexmark: Firmware update to fix Windows bug and vulnerability CVE-2022-29850 in mid-Sept. 2022

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Printer manufacturer Lexmark warned of a vulnerability in more than a hundred of its printer models as early as June 2022. Attackers who have already gained access to the firmware of the printers can then infiltrate there via a vulnerability. However, the whole thing only became public at the end of August 2022 through an entry in the CVE database. The manufacturer wants to provide a corresponding firmware update by mid-September 2022. Furthermore, I have the information that the USB communication problem of Lexmark printers should also be fixed with this firmware update. This occurred after the July 2022 patch Tuesday and causes Lexmark printers to output only unintelligible characters.
