[German]The analysts at IDC have published the worldwide sales figures for tablet PCs and Chromebooks in the second quarter of 2022. While the shipment figures for Tablet PCs are increasing, there is a sharp drop for Chromebooks (which increased in sales during the corona virus pandemic).
[German]With one of the latest updates, Microsoft has once again implemented a bug in Microsoft Office (from version 2206 build 15330.20196). Both Microsoft Outlook and Word hang on certain documents that contain tables. Explicitly listed are emails with invoices from Uber. A patch is supposed to come in August 2022, and there is a workaround.
[German]There had been speculation about a slimmed-down Outlook Light app for Android devices for some time. Now, Microsoft has officially introduced this app, which is intended for weak Android devices. Currently, however, this variant is not intended for Germany or European countries.
[German]Mozilla developers have released versions 103.0.1 of the Firefox browser on August 1, 2022. This is a maintenance update that is supposed to fix bugs.

There was an installation problem there because a certificate was found to be faulty – caused trouble when reinstalling. [German]In Luxembourg, the company Creos has fallen victim to the Alphv ransomware gang (better known as BackCat). Creos operates both a gas pipeline and electricity supply in the Grand Duchy. This was made public by a release from the Alphv ransomware group.

From April 2023, support for Office 2013 will end – but more importantly, from October 2023, the ability to access services for Microsoft 365 from Microsoft Office 2016 and 2019 ends. Exchange Online can then no longer be used, for example.
[German]The developers of the Google Chrome browser are discussing simplifying the mechanism for selecting the default browser on Windows. A simple mouse click on a button should be enough in the future, instead of chasing the user into the settings under Windows 10/11, as was the case until now. Microsoft Windows Server 20H2 will receive security updates for the last time on August 9, 2022, i.e. in a few days, and will then be removed from Microsoft's support. Anyone still running such an installation would therefore have to update to a successor version.
[German]On July 26, 2022, U.S. managed service provider NetStandard was arguably the victim of a successful cyberattack. The attack resulted in the company having to shut down its MyAppsAnywhere cloud services, consisting of hosted Dynamics GP, Exchange, Sharepoint and CRM services, to prevent further damage.
