Ransomware infection at part of Airbus works council (Oct. 2021)

This is believed to be the website and data of the Airbus Staff Associations (an organization surrounding the works council), which provides Airbus employees with opportunities to engage in sports, culture, recreation, and solidarity. The impact is limited to the computer network of this entity.

Windows 11: WSL is available as preview from Microsoft Store

Windows[German]Microsoft has made the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) available for Windows 11 – currently as a preview – as a download from the Microsoft Store. The WSL will be removed as an optional component from Windows 11 itself. This step should allow updates to be rolled out more quickly. In addition, the whole thing decouples WSL from the actual operating system. [German]Apple has released a security update for iPhone to iOS 15.0.2 and for iPad to iOS 15.0.2 as of October 11, 2021, which closes critical 0-day vulnerabilities in the core. According to Apple, the vulnerabilities are already being exploited in the wild.

Windows 11: App issues and Brother USB printers doesn't print

Windows[German]The issues with Windows 11, which will be officially released by Microsoft on October 5, 2021, are slowly piling up. In the blog post Windows 11: Known issues (October 5, 2021), I had already reported about three problems admitted by Microsoft. Among other things, Virtualbox is not compatible. There is also a memory leak in Explorer (see AMD warns: CPUs run up to 15% slower with Windows 11). On AMD CPUs, there are also performance losses (see Windows 11: File Explorer has a Memory Leak). Now it turns out that certain apps are causing trouble because of registry entries. And it looks like Brother printers connected via USB can't print.

German OSB Alliance warns: Microsoft Cloud threatens digital sovereignty

[German]Microsoft is working to force users – especially in enterprise IT – onto subscription models and cloud connectivity. From 2025, many on-premises offerings will be phased out and the compulsion to the cloud will then be de facto. This will be accompanied by a total loss of digital sovereignty. The German Open Source Business Alliance (OSB) therefore urgently pointed out as early as the end of September 2021 that Germany and the EU are taking powerful steps to give up even the last vestige of digital sovereignty.

Ransomware on the rise due of home office

Facebook bans developer of Facebook Unfollow tool for life

According to his own information, a software developer was banned for life from this platform because he had developed a browser extension "Unfollow Everything" that allowed users to restrict Facebook's negative features.
