CNAME (Canonical Name) records can be used to alias one name to another (see). Also Computer Names Aliases may be used in Active Directory environments. In a blog post Brandon Wilson from Microsoft discusses, why use Computer Names Aliases in place of DNS CNAME Records and shows also, how to do that.
