New Microsoft timeline for the introduction of the Adobe Acrobat PDF engine in Edge Chromium

Edge[German]My understanding was that Microsoft wanted to integrate the Adobe Acrobat PDF engine into the Edge browser instead of its own renderer. I had even assumed that this was already the case. Now a reader informed me at the beginning of March 2024 that this integration had been postponed until summer 2024. After publishing this within my German blog, I also cover it here for my English language readers.

MalDoc: Malicious Word files in PDF documents bypass malware detection

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]Another small addendum from this week: The Japanese CERT warns of a new technique used by cyber attackers who take malicious Word files and embed them in PDF documents. This "packaging" is intended to bypass the detection of the malicious Office documents by security software. JPCERT/CC first observed such attack techniques, known as MalDoc, via infected PDF files in July 2023.

Microsoft Edge 102.0.1245.30 has issues with PDF printing

Edge[German]Microsoft Edge 102.0.1245.30, released on May 31, 2022 is a security update to close a number of vulnerabilities. But I got reports that this Edge version breaks PDF printing in Windows 10/11. It's simply no longer possible for some users to print PDF documents. Only a downgrade helps. And there is a workaround developed by blog readers, using GPO settings. So administrators in companies probably should delay the rollout and test it intensively.
