[German]NAS manufacturer QNAP has now issued a security warning because its devices are under attack by the eCh0raix ransomware.
Microsoft has just announced the Preview 5 of its .NET 5.0 Framework in the developer blog. The preview is available for Windows, macOS and Linux and contains some new features described in the blog post. The blog post also contains the announcement that the built-in support for WinRT in .NET 5.0 will be removed with Preview 6.
[German]Now a view at the 'bitter end of smart devices' such as smart TVs, refrigerators or other IoT devices (smart speakers, thermostats, etc.) becomes visible. There are not even missing updates for their software. Expired security certificates could kick those devices into the 'offline' mode, no connection is possible anymore.
[German]Currently, billions of devices are at risk from a bug if UPnP is used there. The vulnerability, called CallStranger, allows for data extraction, denial of service (DDoS) attacks, and internal network scanning.
[German]Another critical vulnerability has been discovered in the Server Message Block 3.1.1 (SMBv3) protocol of Windows 10/Server Core, which allows access to the kernel memory. But there are patches and mitigations available.

On 10 June 2020, the developers released WordPress 5.4.2. It is a maintenance update which fixes security issues and 23 bugs and contains improvements. Details are available in the release notes. I just had the German IT-Blog updated without any problems.
