Windows[German]After speculating about subscription and ad-financed low costs PCs from Microsoft, two annoying stories  about that came into my view. An ex-MVP colleague complained about annoying attempts by Microsoft to put Bing as a search engine in Edge. And a blog reader pointed me to an annoying notification about "PC Training" in Windows 20 21H2, but it doesn't work. I picked up these cases in a separate post to show the possible "future of Windows systems".

Is Microsoft working on subscription and ad-supported low-cost PCs?

[German]Reports said that Microsoft is internally working on low-cost PCs (low-cost hardware) financed via subscriptions and advertising. This is supposed to open up new business models, possibly after failing as a counterpart to Chromebooks.

Microsoft Defender for macOS 101.86.81 issues

[German]Mac users who used Microsoft Defender for macOS version 101.86.81 experienced problems (hangs) in connection with Teams. In the meantime, the problem seems to have been fixed by updating Defender before macOS.

Windows 11 22H2: Upgrade blocker "Audio out of sync through Xbox Game Bar" removed

Windows[German]Microsoft has fixed an issue with the Xbox Game Bar that caused out-of-sync audio output on affected systems in certain situations. There was an upgrade lock to Windows 11 22H2 on these systems. Since the issue has been fixed, Microsoft will remove the upgrade lock on Windows 11 22H2 in mid of November 2022.

Dropbox security incident regarding GitHub repositories

It is about the fact that unauthorized third parties probably gained access to Dropbox's GitHub repositories via phishing. The incident occurred back on October 14, 2022 and Dropbox was informed by GitHub that they had detected suspicious activity.

Adobe asks Creative Cloud user for an additional Pantone subscription to use Pantone Color books

[German]Users who use Pantone color palettes (color charts) in files created with Adobe products will need a subscription to Pantone when using Adobe Creative Cloud in the future. Otherwise, only black colors will be displayed in corresponding documents, because Adobe has removed the relevant color libraries from Pantone from its products. The background to this is a licensing issue with Pantone, who are suddenly charging Adobe $21 per month in licensing fees per customer. Adobe is passing this on to users.

Windows 10: Microsoft disables Internet Explorer 11 on Feb. 14, 2023

[German]Another brief piece of information about Windows 10 and Internet Explorer 11: On February 14, 2023 (patch day), Microsoft will automatically deactivate Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 10 if the browser is still active there. From this date on, calls to Internet Explorer 11 will be redirected to Microsoft Edge.
