Check Point finds four vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office

According to Check Point, products in the Office suite are affected, including Excel and Word. The vulnerabilities stem from outdated code and open up the possibility for attackers to execute malicious command lines via attempted Office documents.

Windows 10 V1909: Installation of update KB5003635 fails

Windows[German]Today another small blog post about installation problems with Windows 10 updates with a surprising cause. I came across a case where the installation of update KB5003635 fails on Windows 10 version 1909 clients. The cause is bizarre: an outdated version of Robocopy. Currently, the only option is to upgrade to a newer Windows 10 version or suspend the update.

PayPal increases prices in the USA

[German]Paypal is increasing its fee structure in the U.S. starting in August 2021. That's according to this announcement. For PayPal Digital Payments for PayPal payment products (such as PayPal Checkout, Pay with Venmo, PayPal Credit, Pay in 4, PayPal Pay with Rewards, Checkout with crypto) that include seller protection for eligible transactions, the rate for online transactions will be 3.49% + $0.491 per transaction.

VLC 3.0.16 released

Sicherheit[German]Due to a bug, the developers of the VLC Player had to withdraw version 3.0.15, which was released on June 8, 2021. Now version 3.0.16 is available for Linux, macOS and Windows. There is no changelog yet, but the version is supposed to fix the D3D11 crash on Windows 8.1. The update is not yet offered in the VLC player. However, the download is already possible on the FTP server.

VW-Käfer[German]Do you have a car? At some point, you will probably have to replace it. What used to be an expensive but often joyful act could mutate into a nightmare in the future. The Beetle shown here is not affected – even though it is a newer model. In the past (TM), it was still possible to repair. Today, modern vehicles already require expensive diagnostic stations that lock out the private screwdriver. But the future will be even worse – according to the developers, future vehicles will contain a lot of digital technology and software. And that raises the question of software updates, as well as bugs in the code and support time.
