[Geman]The January 11, 2022 security updates for Windows Server 2012/R2 resulted in the Hyper-V host subsequently failing to start. As of January 17, 2022, Microsoft then released special updates to correct this issue. Here is a follow-up on this issue.
[German]Installing Windows 10 or Windows 11 in virtual environments can present some challenges. Depending on the hypervisor, the installation may even fail completely. Blog reader Thomas S. emailed me back in December 2021 with his experiences installing Windows 10 as well as Windows 11 under Microsoft's Hyper-V 2nd generation. I publsih his information here in the blog – maybe other readers can benefit from it.
[German]Microsoft has updated the Chromium Edge browser to version Edge 97.0.1072.69 as of January 20, 2022 (thanks to the reader for pointing this out). This is a security update that addresses security vulnerabilities. Microsoft lists the release notes for Microsoft Edge and its security updates on this page – but it doesn't give much details. The browser should be updated automatically, but can also be downloaded here.
[German]Currently, it seems like the SonicWall Gen7 Firewalls have been causing an issue since January 20, 2022. There are reports that access is no longer possible or the Gen7 firewall falls into a reboot loop. There is already a support post from SonicWall about this with a workaround. I'll pick it up here in the blog.
[German]There currently seems to be massive issues with shared mailboxes on Microsoft 365 not being able to update automatically since January 2022. A blog reader alerted me to the problem on Jan. 20, 2022, but there are more reports about it.

[German]Are you experiencing still (or again) issues with Outlook desktop search on Windows 10, after installing the January 2022 updates? I got reports from German blog readers about this issue (mails couln't be found). On the other hand, there is a new status message from Microsoft dated 1/19/2021 that they want to have the broken Outlook Search on Windows 10 fixed by KIR.
[German]As of January 11, 2022, Microsoft has closed the CVE-2021-22947 vulnerability in Windows 10, Windows 11 and their server counterparts with various security updates. The CVE-2021-22947 vulnerability affects the Curl library and was reported by German security researcher Stefan Kanthak back in the summer of 2021. I have the tenacious correspondence between Kanthak and the MSRC, so I can rehash this case here in the blog.
[German]The security updates that Microsoft rolled out for Microsoft Office in January 2022 are once again causing problems with Microsoft Access. Only one user can still access the databases. This problem already existed with the December 2021 updates for Office. But Microsoft had released fixes for the affected Office versions at the end of December 2021. However, there were users for whom these fix updates did not help.
[German]On January 20, 2022, Mozilla developers released version 96.0.2 as a maintenance update of the Firefox browser to correct various bugs.
[German]The security updates for Windows released by Microsoft on January 11, 2022 resulted in the loss of support for the ReFS file system and disks being displayed as RAW. As of January 17 and 18, 2022, Microsoft has released special updates to fix this bug as well. However, the updates do not seem to completely fix this ReFS issue.
