I: Microsoft Defender flags Synology backups as a Trojan (August 3, 2026)

Bug[German]A German blog reader contacted me about a strange behavior, he faced on hypervisors. Microsoft Defender flags Synology backups on the affected user's servers as a Trojan. As a result, the backups no longer run. The reader wrote to me that selecting "Allow" for this process disables the entire detection rule. And even more striking is the reader's analysis of what triggers Microsoft Defender's response.

FortiBleed: Administrator Passwords Compromised on 74,000 Fortinet Firewalls

Stop - Pixabay[German]Operators of Fortinet products are at risk of having their instances compromised by attackers. This is because the passwords for administrator access to these instances have been cracked. Attackers can take control of the installations and manipulate them at will. This affects nearly 74,000 instances, as I have read, and is being discussed under the term "FortiBleed." It seems that information on suspected vulnerabilities has been known and patched since weeks.

Edge 149.0.4022.52: Issues with folder redirection of the Downloads folder to an FQDN?

Edge[German]Microsoft released an update for the Edge 149.0.4022.52 browser in the Stable Channel on June 4, 2026. A reader just informed me that since then, there have been issues with redirecting the Downloads folder to an FQDN URL. As a result, ICA files for Citrix cannot be found. Perhaps others are experiencing the same issue.

Windows 11 Clients: The Group Policy Editors gpedit.msc and GPMC are broken

Windows[German]The Group Policy Editors (gpedit.msc or gpmc from the RSAT tools) are "broken" in Windows 11; due to a bug, it does not perform the tasks assigned to it by the administrator. Entered values are not applied but are truncated due to an overflow error and then saved. Mark Heitbrink reported this to Microsoft in March 2026 but has not received a response yet.
